Certifications Are Issued by Model, Not by Company

Lock testing and certification are applied for on a per-product-model basis, with each certificate covering only one model or a single model series. Jin Tay Industries' travel security hardware and IoT smart locks belong to different product lines, and their certification scopes are independent. When requesting quotes, buyers should ask for a "model-to-certification list" to confirm the certification items and applicable markets for each model actually shipped.

Why "The Company Has Certification" Does Not Mean "This Product Is Certified"

Many buyers see multiple certifications listed on a supplier's website and assume all products from that company have passed. In reality, certification certificates specify the applicable models, specifications, and test standards, and different models from the same company may only pass certain items. Taking Jin Tay as an example, TSA padlocks, combination locks, and key locks are mechanical locks, while IoT smart locks involve wireless communication and cybersecurity. The certification paths for these two categories are completely different and cannot cover each other.

Information Buyers Should Request from Suppliers When Quoting

  • Model-to-Certification Mapping Table

    Lists the certification items, applicable markets, and certificate validity for each shipped model to avoid mismatches between certificates and actual products.

  • Copies of Test Reports

    Request reports issued by third-party laboratories rather than relying solely on certification logos shown on the company website.

  • Certification Ownership for OEM Custom Models

    Whether customized products can use existing certificates or require retesting must be confirmed during the DFM stage.

  • Certificate Validity and Renewal Status

    Certifications typically have a validity period. Buyers should confirm that certificates remain valid at the time of shipment and understand who is responsible for renewal.

Where Certification Should Be Placed in the OEM/ODM Process

Jin Tay's OEM/ODM process is DFM design review → mold development → prototyping and verification → testing and certification → mass production. Certification typically falls after prototyping and verification but before mass production. However, if structural changes or new features are involved, retesting may be required. If buyers have certification requirements for specific markets (e.g., EU CE, US FCC, TSA approval), they should raise them during the DFM stage to avoid delays caused by late additions.
