Salt spray testing commonly follows neutral salt spray standards such as ASTM B117 or ISO 9227. The report must state the salt solution concentration, pH value, test temperature, exposure hours, and sample placement angle. For evaluation, ratings are based on ASTM B537 or ISO 10289, distinguishing the corroded surface area and the degree of red rust. Buyers should note whether the report indicates the "rating level" and the "year of the acceptance criteria," because the pass threshold may differ between versions of the same standard. If the application involves marine transport or high-humidity environments, it is recommended to request cyclic corrosion test (CCT) data to better reflect real-world conditions.

Cycle Count and Acceptance Criteria
Confirm the total number of opening/closing cycles set for the test, and the functional failure definition used to determine a pass, such as latch jamming or mechanism loosening.
Load and Torque Conditions
Check whether the test applies the tensile force or torque encountered in actual use, to avoid laboratory conditions being too lenient and unrealistic.
Sample Size and Sampling Method
A report based on a single sample is not representative. Require at least three sets of samples and state the batch numbers sampled.
Post-Test Appearance and Functional Records
The report should include post-test photos and functional inspection results, not just a pass/fail conclusion.
How to Map Report Data to Purchasing Decisions
Report data is only a reference. Buyers need to compare the test conditions with their own application scenarios. For example, gym locker locks and marine luggage locks have very different requirements for corrosion resistance and operating frequency. It is recommended to ask the supplier for a "test condition comparison table" that explains the scenario simulated by each test and the corresponding product line. The original report should be signed by a third-party laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025, and the report number should be verifiable with the laboratory. If the supplier only provides in-house laboratory data, request third-party retesting to reduce procurement risk.
